Valhalla and El Capitan are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Norsemen will be playing at home against the Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Valhalla lost 8-2 to Granite Hills on Friday. The Norsemen have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Mace Wheeler was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, El Capitan came into Wednesday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They were the clear victors by a 16-7 margin over Grossmont on Wednesday.
Landon Harbach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Harbach was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, El Capitan let Kasen Baker and Seth Walker run wild. Baker went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Walker got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Walker is becoming a predictor of El Capitan's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 6-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Eckis, who went 1-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
El Capitan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are 5-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Valhalla's loss dropped their record down to 6-16. As for El Capitan, their win bumped their record up to 8-12.
Valhalla came up short against El Capitan in their previous matchup back in April, falling 7-4. Can the Norsemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
