League recap: Willamette crushed by Springfield

5A Special District 3 recap September 17, 2013

Willamette lost to Springfield 54-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Kosey Mitchell was a bright spot for the Wolverines, as he threw for 212 yards in the defeat.

Churchill made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 10,310 from 11,025. The advance stemmed from a 28-14 victory over Eagle Point last week.

Trever Watson and Trever Watson gave the Millers a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Watson threw for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns, while Watson ran for 60 yards.

Watson was the best running back in 5A Special District 3 this week.

Austin Berg-Ketch was a key player and the best on defense this week as North Eugene fell to Hidden Valley. The 5-foot-11 senior racked up 1.5 sacks.

Darrius Jackson was the best receiver in the league this week as Willamette fell to the Millers. Jackson racked up 5 receptions for 93 yards. Geoff Kastel helped Willamette's passing attack out by catching 6 balls for 84 yards.

Watson put up the best numbers through the air as Springfield defeated Adam Kennybrew's team.

On the heels of Mitchell and Sam Aguirre, the Wolverines have had great success on offense. Mitchell is tops in the league in passing with 530 yards, while Aguirre has rushed for 277 yards this season. Tops in the league in receving yards is Marist's Dustin Jones, with 273 yards on 15 catches.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Willamette and the Highlanders face off next week.

The Lancers are in sixth place, while Ashland is in first place.

The Millers led 5A Special District 3 in scoring this week by notching 54 points on the Wolverines. Watson during the win.
