Basketball Game Preview: Homestead Broncos vs. Mourning Sharks

The Homestead Broncos will face off against the Mourning Sharks at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing is sure in Homestead's favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Mourning has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.

Last Wednesday, Homestead was fully in charge, breezing past Norland 61-22. The Broncos have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 32 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mourning). They breezed by Braddock to the tune of 64-36 on Wednesday. The win was some much needed relief for the Sharks as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Homestead better keep an eye on Makayla Dorvil. She was instrumental in Mourning's win, putting up 26 points. Those 26 points gave Dorvil a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyra Varisse, who posted 17 points.

Homestead is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.7 points per game. As for Mourning, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-9.

Everything came up roses for Homestead against Mourning in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, as the team secured a 49-21 win. Will Homestead repeat their success, or does Mourning have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
