The Davis Darts will head out on the road to challenge the Layton Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Davis has 11 straight wins, Layton has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Davis came out on top against Fremont on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Darts walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Silverwolves.
Serena Roth was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Roth was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Norah Sunderland was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Jewel Korth was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Davis kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 11 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Layton's offense. They fell 4-0 to Bountiful on Wednesday.
Davis' win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Layton, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.
Layton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Davis has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Layton, though, as they've been averaging 10.8 hits. Given Davis' sizable advantage in that area, the Lancers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Davis took their win against Layton when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 11-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Darts since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
