Basketball Recap: LaVille Lancers vs. Whitko Wildcats
After flying high against Glenn last Friday, LaVille came back down to earth. The LaVille Lancers took a 67-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Whitko Wildcats on Tuesday. If the Lancers were looking for revenge after losing 50-48 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
When it comes to explaining why LaVille lost, don't look at Collin Czarnecki. Despite the final result, he went 16-for-27 en route to 44 points and five boards. That was a full 73.3% of LaVille's points, marking the sixth time in a row Czarnecki has posted more than a third of the team's points. Lance Edison was another key player, going 5-for-12 to rack up 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, LaVille smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive matchups.
Whitko's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chandler Cox, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Cox a new career-high in points. Jaylen Gibson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
LaVille's record is now 13-7. As for Whitko, their record now sits at 5-14.
Coming up, LaVille will host 21st Century Charter at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. LaVille has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 185 points over their last three games. As for Whitko, they will head out to challenge Wabash at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Whitko is facing Wabash at the right time seeing as Wabash is stuck on a 19-game losing streak.
