Basketball Recap: Monticello Mustangs vs. Louisa County Lions
The Monticello Mustangs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They managed a 87-83 victory over Louisa County. With that win, Monticello brought their scoring average up to 50.4 points per game.
Samantha Shifflett was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 40 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Dylan Wood, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds.
Louisa County lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Harlee Lowe, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. It was the first time this season that Lowe scored 15 or more points. Taylor Yeatts was another key contributor, scoring 26 points along with seven assists and four steals.
Monticello's win bumped their record up to 11-7. As for Louisa County, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monticello and the Patriots will face off at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Virginia (Albemarle is ranked 146th, while the Mustangs are ranked 147th). As for Louisa County, they will be playing at home against the Fighting Hornets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Laney Fayard and Yeatts.
