It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Gardner-South Wilmington ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Donovan Wildcats 4-3. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Jo Male and Maddie Simms were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Male struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Simms didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over four innings pitched. Male has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Male went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Simms went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits Male has posted since back in April.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bella Dinelli, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.

Gardner-South Wilmington's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-9. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Donovan, they moved to 7-9 with that loss, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gardner-South Wilmington will take on Dwight at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Donovan, they will face off against Watseka at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Wildcats surely won't give up without a fight.
