It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but High Tech SD had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 13-2 margin over the Crawford Colts. The result was nothing new for the Storm, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Neal Griswold made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Devon Caris looked comfortable as he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of High Tech SD's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 9-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't).
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Adrian Acevedo, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Jesse Rubio was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
The victory (which was High Tech SD's fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-10. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Crawford, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-15.
As of now, neither High Tech SD nor the Colts have any future games scheduled.
