Softball Recap: Buena Park Sets Scoring Season-High Against Laguna Hills

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buena Park). Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Laguna Hills Hawks a 14-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Coyotes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Mia Gonzalez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Hinojos, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Emma Cazares also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Buena Park hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

The win made it two in a row for Buena Park and bumps their season record up to 10-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Laguna Hills, they dropped their record down to 1-9 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coincidentally, Buena Park and Laguna Hills will both be playing Katella the next time they take the field. The Hawks will head out to face the Knights at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Coyotes will host them at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
