Baseball Recap: Helix Continues Home Dominance on Friday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Granite Hills, Helix was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the El Capitan Vaqueros by a score of 5-2. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Vaqueros recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Antoin Simpson made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has become a key player for Helix: the team is 7-2 when he allows at most two hits, but 7-9 otherwise. Simpson was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

In other pitching news, Sean Sherrod looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Helix is undefeated when Sherrod allows three or fewer hits, but 10-11 otherwise.

Simpson wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Carbajal, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Helix's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-11. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for El Capitan, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-14 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Helix will challenge Valhalla at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Norsemen will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for El Capitan, they will face off against Grossmont at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
