Softball Recap: Berkley Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Berkley entered their tilt with Detroit Country Day on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Yellowjackets by a score of 5-2. That's more bragging rights for the Bears, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Claire Marentis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Alyse Muscat was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Molly Aretz was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Berkley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Berkley's victory bumped their record up to 13-15. As for Detroit Country Day, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.

Coming up, Berkley will square off against Cass Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Technicians' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Detroit Country Day, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-1 defeat against Clarkston on the 20th.
