Basketball Recap: Lake Placid Comes Up Short

Lake Placid was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their 11th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost to the Seton Catholic Central Knights at home by a 51-33 margin. The Bombers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Knights from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Lake Placid lost, don't look at Seb Cecunjanin. Despite the final result, he went 11 for 22 on his way to 23 points in addition to eight boards and five steals. That was a full 69.7% of Lake Placid's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Even though they lost, Lake Placid smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Leading Seton Catholic Central to victory were Michael Mannix and Oliver Hughes. Mannix had 23 points in addition to six steals and five boards, while Hughes went 5 of 9 on his way to 17 points. Mannix has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Matt Debay, who put up six points.

Lake Placid's record now sits at 0-8. As for Seton Catholic Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season.

Lake Placid will challenge Crown Point at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Seton Catholic Central, they will venture away from home to challenge Johnsburg Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Seton Catholic Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.9 points per game this season.
