Basketball Recap: Taylorsville Comes Up Short

Taylorsville played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 57-37 to the Riverton Silverwolves. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Silverwolves are ranked 25th).

Despite the defeat, Taylorsville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tessa Duke posted six points in addition to 13 boards and four steals. Those four steals gave Duke a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Siulose Jones, who put up six points along with six assists and three steals.

Even though they lost, Taylorsville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in four consecutive contests.

Riverton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maggie Hamblin led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 16 boards. Ella Lange was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Taylorsville has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Riverton, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Taylorsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 78-29 loss against Layton Christian Academy on the 3rd. As for Riverton, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Weber at 5:15 p.m. on January 7th. Weber is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.6 points per game this season.
