Baseball Recap: Westchester Snaps Five-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Westchester was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against University on Wednesday. The Comets were the clear victors by a 12-5 margin over the Wildcats. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Jayden Hightower and Nicolas Barboza were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hightower tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Barboza struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Hightower also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Westchester is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-6 otherwise. At bat, Hightower scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances, while Barboza scored two runs while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance also gave Hightower a new career-high in RBI (three).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Henry Rocha, who scored three runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Draiden Harris-Smith also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Westchester's win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-7. As for University, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: University beat Westchester by a score of 8-5 on Friday.
