Football Recap: Paraclete's Undefeated Season over After Four Games + How To Watch

Paraclete easily dispatched Hart last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Spirits fell just short of the Valencia Vikings by a score of 47-44 on Friday. The close matchup was extra heartbreaking for the Spirits, who almost overcame a 26 point deficit.

When it comes to explaining why Paraclete lost, don't look at Joseph Mesa. Despite the final result, he threw for 252 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Mesa has been hot recently, having posted four or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played.

Valencia was led to victory by Brian Bonner and Evan McCalister. Bonner rushed for 145 yards and three scores while picking up 8.1 yards per carry, while McCalister threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.7% of his passes. With that strong performance, Bonner is now averaging an impressive 109.8 rushing yards per game. Elias Holloway was McCalister's top target, picking up 80 receiving yards and one TD.

Having lost for the first time this season, Paraclete fell to 3-1. As for Valencia, their victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1.

Paraclete and Valencia should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Spirits will challenge Village Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank advantage (140 vs. 405). Meanwhile, Valencia (ranked 60th) will meet West Ranch (ranked 251st) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
