Softball Game Preview: Century Jaguars vs. Newberg Tigers

Century is 0-10 against Newberg since March of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Jaguars will host the Tigers at 5:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Century's offense. They fell 5-0 to Sherwood on Wednesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Forest Grove hit Newberg with a six-run fifth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Tigers lost 12-5 to the Vikings. The loss continues a trend for the Tigers in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost four in a row.

Newberg saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gracie Spry, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That home run marked the first that Spry has launched this season.

Century's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Newberg, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Century couldn't quite finish off Newberg in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 19-17. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
