Baseball Game Preview: Kiski Area Cavaliers vs. Gateway Gators

The Kiski Area Cavaliers will head out to face off against the Gateway Gators at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Kiski Area comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Last Monday, Kiski Area didn't have quite enough to beat Greater Latrobe and fell 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cavaliers have suffered against the Wildcats since April 27, 2021.

Zach Hald made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Zollinger, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gateway, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Armstrong on Friday, sneaking past 7-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Myles Beavin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Max Cobbs and Grady Dunsmore did most of the damage at the plate: Cobbs scored a run while going 1-for-1, while Dunsmore scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Dunsmore has posted since back in May of 2024. Jayden Lewis also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Gateway's record is now 6-3. As for Kiski Area, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-7.

Kiski Area skirted past Gateway 8-7 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will the Cavaliers repeat their success, or do the Gators have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
