Basketball Game Preview: Reserve Mountaineers vs. Maxwell Bears

The Reserve Mountaineers will head out to take on the Maxwell Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Reserve is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Lordsburg on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Reserve was beaten by Lordsburg 80-25. The Mountaineers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 45-8.

Meanwhile, Maxwell entered their tilt with New Mexico School for the Deaf on Tuesday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They breezed by the Roadrunners to the tune of 82-43. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 24 points or more this season.

Maxwell's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 91.3 points per game. As for Reserve, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Reserve came up short against Maxwell when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 56-47. Can Reserve avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
