Baseball Game Preview: Encinal Jets vs. Campolindo Cougars

The Encinal Jets will face off against the Campolindo Cougars at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Encinal's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Campolindo's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Last Friday, Encinal came up short against Newark Memorial and fell 5-2. The matchup marked the Jets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Encinal got a good showing from Darren Olson, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Olson has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

Meanwhile, Campolindo started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Vintage. They fell just short of the Crushers by a score of 8-7 on Saturday. The loss was the Cougars' first of the season.

Colin Rutzen was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.

At the plate, Blake Robison and Cole Fischer did some serious damage despite the final result: Robison went 1-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double, while Fischer went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. Frank Polichio was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Encinal's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Campolindo, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
