Hilltop came tearing into Wednesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Mar Vista Mariners by a score of 4-1. That's two games straight that the Lancers have won by exactly three runs.

Catherine Vasquez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Yaretzi Amesquita, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Nevaeh Matos was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

Hilltop's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-10-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mar Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.

Coming up, Hilltop will host Olympian at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Eagles have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Mar Vista, they will head out on the road to challenge Chula Vista at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Mariners' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
