After both having extra time off, the Syracuse Titans and the Davis Darts will shake off the rust and duke it out at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Syracuse sitting on three straight victories and Davis on four.
Last Thursday, Syracuse got the win against Weber by a conclusive 3-0.
Syracuse never let Weber on the board, but things got pretty close in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-11, 28-26.
Syracuse can attribute much of their success to Ian Sprague, who had nine digs and one assist.
Meanwhile, Davis faced Farmington in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Thursday. The Darts came out on top against the Phoenix by a score of 3-1.
The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-16, 19-25, 25-17.
Syracuse better keep an eye on Siona Faeamani. He was instrumental in Davis' win, getting 23 assists and eight digs. That's the most assists Faeamani has posted over his last six contests. Luke McKnight also deserves some recognition as he had his first block of the season.
Syracuse's record is now 10-3. As for Davis, their record now sits at 5-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's game: Syracuse has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 5.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Davis struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.8 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Syracuse came out on top in a nail-biter against Davis when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Titans since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
