Baseball Recap: Davenport Wins Going Away Against Oak Ridge

Davenport won against Wekiva last Thursday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. The Broncos blew past the Oak Ridge Pioneers 13-2. With that win, the Broncos brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Jorge Covas was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Davenport is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-14 otherwise. Covas was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Luis Escalera, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Zion Jefferson was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1.

Davenport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Davenport is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-15 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Oak Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.

Coming up, Davenport will be taking part in a tournament against Auburndale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Broncos are facing the Bloodhounds at the right time seeing as the Bloodhounds are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Oak Ridge, they will host Cocoa at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Pioneers will also cruise into their next contest with the timing on their side: the Tigers will have lost 16 straight heading into Monday's game.
