Basketball Recap: Charles J. Colgan Sharks vs. Freedom Eagles
The Charles J. Colgan Sharks were the 46-31 winner over the Freedom Eagles when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Charles J. Colgan received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 47-32 to the Eagles.
Charles J. Colgan's loss came despite strong showings from Mya Alexander and Brianna Long. Alexander scored six points along with 13 rebounds and three steals, while Long almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Long has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played.
Freedom got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Keilani Johnson out in front who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. It was the first time this season that Johnson pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneah DeGuzman, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Charles J. Colgan's loss dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Freedom, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.
Charles J. Colgan will be playing at home against the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Virginia (Potomac Senior is ranked 145th, while the Sharks are ranked 131st). As for Freedom, they will head out on the road to challenge the Red Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gar-Field will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
