Softball Recap: Holcomb Takes a Loss

Holcomb extended their losing streak to 14 on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-14. They fell 5-1 to the Lakin Broncs. The Longhorns were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Broncs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Ashland Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits.

On the hitting side, Keira Salas was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season.

As for Lakin, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-12 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games.

On Lakin's side, Kiah Beymer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Beymer was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last five games she's played.

In other batting news, Lileah Villa was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Sara Martinez, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

While Holcomb had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
