Baseball Game Preview: University Hawks vs. John Marshall Monarchs

The University Hawks will face off against the John Marshall Monarchs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams were dealt some close losses in their previous games and are determined not to let this one get away.

University came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat on Wednesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Morgantown by a score of 4-2 on Thursday. The Hawks have struggled against the Mohigans recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

University saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Max Cash, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, John Marshall suffered their closest loss since May 1, 2024 on Wednesday. They fell just short of Morgantown by a score of 3-1. The game marked the Monarchs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Jacob Cisar was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits.

This is the second loss in a row for John Marshall and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for University, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Everything went University's way against John Marshall in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as University made off with a 12-5 victory. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Monarchs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
