Baseball Recap: Apopka Drops Season-High Score on East River

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Apopka). Everything went their way against the East River Falcons on Monday as Apopka made off with a 14-0 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Blue Darters with their most commanding win of the season.

Not much got past Tyler Spaid, who gave up just two hits and racked up nine Ks to keep East River off the board. Spaid has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Apopka got a massive performance out of Nicolas Posluszny, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three runs gave Posluszny a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Timothy (Jez) Hamrick, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Apopka's record is now 9-6. As for East River, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-7.

When Apopka and East River next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Apopka will square off against St. Cloud and their five-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Apopka 3.2, St. Cloud 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, East River will try to stop Boone's four-game winning streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
