Softball Recap: Arizona College Prep Has No Trouble Against Sunrise Mountain

Arizona College Prep was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Sunrise Mountain on Monday. The Knights put the hurt on the Mustangs with a sharp 14-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won 17 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Ava Moynihan tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over six innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

At the plate, Arizona College Prep got a massive performance out of Shelby O'Donnal, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs O'Donnal has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Rachel Cain, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Arizona College Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sunrise Mountain only posted an OBP of .371.

Arizona College Prep's record now sits at 21-5. As for Sunrise Mountain, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Arizona College Prep will take on Notre Dame Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 3.6, the Saints 2.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Sunrise Mountain, they will face off against Kellis at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
