Enka hasn't had much luck against Asheville recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Jets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Enka has given up an average of 29.9 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Enka is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against A.C. Reynolds on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Jets had to suffer through a 48-21 loss at the hands of the Rockets. While losing is never fun, the Jets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 287th, while the Rockets are ranked 84th).
Despite the loss, Enka got top-tier performance from Tommy McKinney, who rushed for 73 yards and three scores on only eight carries, and also picked up 58 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Asheville). They blew past North Buncombe 43-22 on Friday. The Cougars not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since November 8, 2024 (when they won 45-15).
Asheville found their leader in sophomore Tay Williams, who threw for 224 yards and three TDs while completing 86.7% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. The Cougars are 2-1 when Williams posts three or more passing touchdowns, but 2-4 otherwise.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Asheville, racking up 11 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of TK Davis, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
The victory made it two in a row for Asheville and bumps their season record up to 4-5. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.0 points over those games. As for Enka, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
