Baseball Recap: Royalton-Hartland Drops Season-High Score on Newfane

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Royalton-Hartland). They put the hurt on the Newfane Panthers with a sharp 15-5 win on Wednesday. Surprisingly, this marked the Rams' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Sean Mettler made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Royalton-Hartland got a massive performance out of John Brigham, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Jared Hy, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Royalton-Hartland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.

Royalton-Hartland pushed their record up to 5-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Newfane, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Royalton-Hartland beat the Panthers by a score of 5-1 on Friday.
