Softball Recap: Grants Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Gallup, Grants was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the Shiprock Chieftains 5-4. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 13-3 win the Chieftains walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

The team relied heavily on Bianca Murillo, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Reyna Valdez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Grants' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grants will venture away from home to square off against Bernalillo at 5:00 p.m. on March 13th. As for Shiprock, they will head out to face off against Sandia Prep at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Sandia Prep and 14 for Shiprock dating back to last season.
