Basketball Recap: Platteview Has No Trouble Against Mercy

Platteview won against Plattsmouth on Tuesday with 61 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Trojans blew past the Mercy Monarchs 61-37. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-10.

Alexys Mandel went supernova, going 6-for-9 from beyond the arc to rack up 18 points and three steals. What's more, she also posted a 60% shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brea Weldon, who shot 63% from the field en route to 11 points and six steals.

Platteview was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive contests.

Mercy's loss came despite strong showings from Kayden Ruch and Madisyn Grzebielski. Ruch dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten boards, while Grzebielski posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caroline Schnieber, who earned five points and seven rebounds.

The victory got Platteview back to even at 2-2. As for Mercy, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Platteview will venture away from home to square off against Beatrice at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mercy, they will be home for the holidays to greet Ashland-Greenwood at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
