The Midland Legacy Rebels will take on the Permian Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
On Friday, it was close, but Midland Legacy sidestepped Frenship for a 45-42 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rebels.

Midland Legacy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was JP Reyes out in front who threw for 313 yards and four touchdowns, and also punched in one rushing score. Reyes has become a key player for the Rebels: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 250 passing yards, but 0-4 otherwise. Hayes Hamm helped Reyes out on the ground, rushing for 161 yards, while also catching one score.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Caden Ellis, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Midland Legacy's defensive line stepped up as well, laying out the QB eight times. The heavy lifting was done by Weldon Cooks and Gabriel Henry, who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Permian duked it out with San Angelo Central on Friday. The Panthers came out on top against the Bobcats by a score of 35-27. The win continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bobcats: they've now won six in a row.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Jakob Garcia and Micah Smith. Garcia had a great game and threw for 320 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes. Meanwhile, Smith did his best for the losing side, throwing for 191 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 38 yards.
Midland Legacy's victory bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Permian, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.
Midland Legacy beat Permian 49-38 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Panthers' Gavin Black, who rushed for 214 yards while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Rebels still be able to contain Black? There's only one way to find out.
