Football Recap: Mountain Pointe Starts off Right with Win over Vista Grande

Mountain Pointe had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Vista Grande Spartans 33-0. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Pride had established a 26-point advantage.

Mountain Pointe's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ariana Acosta, who threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns while completing 84.6% of her passes. The dominant performance also gave Acosta a new career-high in passer rating (163.1). A healthy portion of Acosta's aerial production (101 yards to be exact) went to Raniya Sims.

Mountain Pointe didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Vista Grande to a completion percentage of just 50%. The team can thank Kinzey Reed for the heroic effort on defense: she. Given Acosta's standout performance, it's clear Vista Grande's secondary just wasn't on the same level.

Mountain Pointe didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Nevaeh Luevano, Jaiani Graham, and Deijah Milligan picked up one apiece. Milligan got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Coincidentally, Mountain Pointe and Vista Grande will both be playing Horizon the next time they take the field. The Spartans will head out to face the Huskies at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Pride will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
