Vermilion Valley Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Evan Parish and Co. Win Seventh in a Row

Evan Parish's big game helped extend Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin's winning streak to seven on Friday. Momence had no answer to Parish as he made 11 total tackles. Parish is also on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last five games he's played dating back to last season.

Parish must have Momence's number; he was a force to be reckoned with the last time he faced them too. When Parish last faced the Momence Athletics back in October of 2023, he made 11 total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Castillo Came Up Big in Momence's 42-14 Loss

Erick Castillo posted a new career-high in rushing yards on Friday. He rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 259 yards and a touchdown. He also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up a sack and making two total tackles.

Momence's defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-1. Castillo and Momence will host Watseka at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Big Game from Harrison As Oakwood Won 44-6

Oakwood found a leader in Chase Harrison as the squad took down Iroquois West on Friday. Iroquois West had no answer to Harrison as he picked up 73 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Harrison has become a key player for Oakwood: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two receiving touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.

Iroquois West's probably not too fond of Harrison given he always seems to get the better of them. Harrison picked up 141 receiving yards and two touchdowns the last time he and the Raiders duked it out back in October of 2023.

The performance once again pushed his average receiving yardage north of 100 yards per game (101.9). He torched the secondary when he pulled down a catch that went for 75 yards.

On the season, Halpin has caught 9 touchdowns while averaging 101.9 receiving yards per game. He's made a big improvement compared to last season: at this point last year, he was only averaging 25.14 receiving yards per game.
