Baseball Recap: Montgomery's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

Montgomery has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.4 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They lost 12-2 to the South Williamsport Mountaineers. The defeat continues a trend for the Red Raiders in their meetings with the Mountaineers: they've now lost nine in a row.

Montgomery saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Bennett, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base. Bennett is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Montgomery fell to 4-1. As for South Williamsport, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-2.

Looking ahead, Montgomery will square off against Columbia Montour Vo-Tech at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Williamsport, they will challenge Canton at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.8 runs per game on average), something the Mountaineers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
