Preview: Northwestern Warriors vs. North Union Wildcats

Northwestern is 1-9 against North Union since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Northwestern Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the North Union Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Northwestern has struggled recently with eight defeats in a row, while North Union will arrive with six straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Northwestern lost to Bethel at home by a decisive 68-50 margin. Northwestern has not had much luck with Bethel recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Ross Fultz, who scored nine points along with five steals. Caleb Bailey was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.

Meanwhile, even though Centerburg scored an imposing 56 points on Saturday, North Union still came out on top. North Union narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Centerburg 58-56. Given North Union's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 201st, while Centerburg is ranked 601st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Northwestern dropped their record down to 4-14 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight at home. As for North Union, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season.

Northwestern opened the new year with a less-than-successful 77-68 defeat to North Union. Can Northwestern avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
