Mountain Ridge hasn't had much luck against Pinnacle recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Mountain Lions will welcome the Pioneers at 3:45 p.m. Mountain Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Mountain Ridge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: Boulder Creek, who was ranked 18th at the time (Mountain Ridge was ranked 15th). The Mountain Lions fell just short of the Jaguars by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Mountain Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Mountain Ridge saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Italia Carpio, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Pinnacle had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. Considering the Pioneers have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Kodi Crabtree, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep O'Connor off the board. Crabtree has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Torynn Slaughter was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Bri Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Pinnacle pushed their record up to 12-6-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Mountain Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Mountain Ridge hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Pinnacle struggles in that department as they've been averaging 1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Mountain Ridge beat Pinnacle 4-1 in their previous matchup on April 3rd. Do the Mountain Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pioneers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
