Basketball Recap: Central of Coosa County Takes a Loss

Central of Coosa County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were beaten by the Ranburne Bulldogs 57-26. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 150th).

Despite the loss, Central of Coosa County saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Queen Ballard almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 19 boards. Ballard has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 17 times she's played.

Even though they lost, Central of Coosa County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in eight consecutive contests.

Central of Coosa County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Ranburne, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.

While Central of Coosa County had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
