Softball Recap: Carterville Takes a Loss

If Carterville was feeling good fresh off their 10-3 takedown of Effingham on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Carterville took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Effingham on Saturday. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hearts earlier this season, when they won 10-3.

Colbie Bennett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kendall McCalla was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Carterville's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Effingham, the win also got them back to even at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Carterville will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Carmi-White County at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Effingham, they will head out on the road to face off against Vandalia at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
