Payson is 7-1 against Mountain View since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Payson will be playing at home against Mountain View at 3:30 p.m. Payson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Payson is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Timpanogos, who was ranked 18th at the time (Payson was ranked sixth). Payson fell just short of Timpanogos by a score of 9-7 on Thursday. It was the first time this season that the Lions let down their fans at home.
Allie Callahan was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Paisley Beckstead, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Callahan wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Payson lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Mountain View was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 8-4 to Uintah.
Miranda Secrist made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Stoddard, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Payson, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Mountain View's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Payson has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Mountain View, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Payson keep running through batters, or will Mountain View buck the trend?
Everything went Payson's way against Mountain View in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Payson made off with an 18-4 win. Does Payson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mountain View turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
