Suggested Video

The Terrell Tigers will face off against the Heritage Coyotes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

While Tigers fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Friday's season opener. They blew past Memorial 28-0 on the road on Friday. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Warriors are ranked 500th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brian White was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Terrell also got a significant boost from Roderick Hambrick Jr., who ran away from the competition to the tune of 87 yards.

Hambrick Jr. wasn't the only one working in the rushing yards department: Terrell was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 388 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in September of 2023.

One reason for the win was Terrell's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. Keiundre Johnson was especially locked on to Memorial's QB and sacked him twice. Johnson didn't just play on offense: he also picked up two sacks and made ten total tackles. Tallen Kennedy was another major factor on D, making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Heritage got themselves on the board against Greenville on Friday, but Greenville never followed suit. Everything went their way against the Lions as they made off with a 26-0 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Coyotes as it put an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Tatum Bell Jr had an outrageously good game as he picked up 187 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of97 yards. Another player making a difference was Denzel Okekeuche, who rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.

Terrell might still be hurting after the 43-20 defeat they got from Heritage when the teams last played back in November of 2014. Thankfully for Terrell, Kene Nwangwu (who rushed for 154 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
