Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for St. Thomas Aquinas

St. Thomas Aquinas came out on top against Spanish River on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Raiders took their match against the Sharks 8-5. Eight seems to be a good number for the Raiders as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Lavinia Miller spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Summer Givens, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Melanie Sweet was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The victory (which was St. Thomas Aquinas' third in a row) raised their record to 9-10. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Spanish River, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-7.

St. Thomas Aquinas didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 10-0 defeat against Palm Beach Gardens on the 16th. As for Spanish River, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 15-0 victory against West Boca Raton on the 16th.
