Baseball Recap: Hayesville Beats Murphy for Their Third Straight Win

Hayesville had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Murphy Bulldogs as they made off with a 17-5 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Yellowjackets also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Kyle Shaheen was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Hayesville is undefeated when Shaheen posts two or more runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Cooper Matheson was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Hayesville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Hayesville pushed their record up to 12-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Murphy, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 7-11.

Hayesville will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Bulldogs: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
