Baseball Recap: Sheldon Takes a Loss

Sheldon had lost 14 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 1-10 to make it 15. They lost 17-0 to the Elk Grove Thundering Herd. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Thundering Herd this season, with their most recent loss being a 20-0 defeat on Wednesday.

As for Elk Grove, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

For Elk Grove's part, Ethan Bagwill looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Bagwill has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Julian Arguello and Chase Dyer did most of the damage at the plate: Arguello went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Dyer went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave Dyer a new career-high. Chase Groves was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sheldon will venture away from home to challenge Destiny Christian Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elk Grove, they will head out to face off against Sage Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
