Soccer Game Preview: Carmel vs. Saint Viator

The Carmel Corsairs are taking a road trip to take on the Saint Viator Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Saint Viator took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Carmel, who comes in off a win.

Carmel will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any goals on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Marist on Saturday. The Corsairs were the clear victors by a 5-2 margin over the RedHawks. Carmel might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by three goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, while the 2-2 score might suggest a draw, it was St. Patrick who was credited with the victory on Saturday. The Shamrocks got it done in the shootout by posting five goals to Saint Viator's four. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Saint Viator came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 49th, while St. Patrick are ranked 169th).

Carmel has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those five matches. As for Saint Viator, their loss ended a four-match streak of away wins and brought them to 10-3-1.

Carmel came up short against Saint Viator in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, falling 2-0. Can the Corsairs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
