Volleyball Recap: Lakeside Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Lakeside had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 2-0 victory over the Statesboro Blue Devils on Thursday. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Lakeside never let Statesboro on the board, but things got pretty close in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-18.

Shelby Smith paced Lakeside's offense, picking up ten kills. Smith got some help from Avery Miller and her 20 assists. Carson Movius and Emily Jost kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with two aces apiece.

Coincidentally, Lakeside and Statesboro will both be playing South Effingham the next time they take the court. The Panthers will head out to face the Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while the Blue Devils will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
