Softball Recap: Melbourne Takes a Loss

Melbourne managed to slip by Spruce Creek the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Melbourne lost 14-5 to Spruce Creek on Friday. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Layna Ayala made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last six games she's played. Hailey Cottrill was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Melbourne's defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Spruce Creek, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Melbourne will take on Centennial at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Spruce Creek, they will square off against Astronaut at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Spruce Creek's pitchers better be ready for this one: Astronaut has averaged an impressive 10.1 runs per game this season.
