Recap: Smoky Hill Buffaloes vs. Eaglecrest Raptors
The Smoky Hill Buffaloes''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 55-14 loss at the hands of Eaglecrest. Smoky Hill was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-14.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eaglecrest to victory, but perhaps none more so than Joe Steiner, who threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.3 yards per attempt. Eaglecrest also got a significant boost from Sterling Dufour, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 80 yards.
Smoky Hill's defeat was their seventh straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-0 Cherry Creek and 12-1 Palmer Ridge (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 68.2% over those games). As for Eaglecrest, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smoky Hill will square off against Cherokee Trail at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Cherokee Trail comes in on a streak of failing to score more than nine points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Eaglecrest, they will head out on the road to face off against Arapahoe at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Arapahoe is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
