Softball Game Preview: Solorio Sun Warriors vs. Juarez Eagles

The Solorio Sun Warriors will challenge the Juarez Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Saturday, Solorio got the win against Goode STEM Academy by a conclusive 12-2. The Sun Warriors haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Natalie Pacheco was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, Melanie Martinez and Anahi Valladares did most of the damage at the plate: Martinez went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Valladares went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Fatima Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Solorio was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .379 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Juarez made sure to put some runs up on the board against Clemente on Friday. The Eagles blew past the Wildcats 21-14.

Juarez's victory bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Solorio, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
