Football Game Preview: Ocosta Wildcats vs. Naselle Comets

Ocosta is 0-4 against Naselle since February of 2021 but things could change on Saturday. The Wildcats are taking a road trip to face off against the Comets at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Ocosta's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed two weeks ago. They took their contest with ease, bagging a 46-0 win over Taholah. The Wildcats' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ocosta to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ronin Rutzer, who rushed for 81 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also picked up 38 receiving yards and one score. That's the most receiving yards Rutzer has posted since back in November of 2024. Logan Rutzer got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Ocosta didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Benjamin Tackett and Caeden Lemaster.

Naselle played against Taholah on Friday and won via forfeit.

The victory was the fifth in a row for Naselle, bringing their record up to 6-1. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.4 points on average over those games. As for Ocosta, their victory bumped their record up to 4-2.

Ocosta was dealt a bruising 86-22 loss at the hands of Naselle in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Wildcats, Jack Strange (who rushed for 185 yards and five TDs on only nine carries, and also picked up 41 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
